Opportunities for Youth

Camp LIT (Leadership, Integrity, Trailblazer)

 Started in 2018 as a cooperative effort between RCFR and HFD, Camp LIT is a one week daytime camp held each summer to expose young women to the fire-rescue profession. Young women between the ages of 14 and 17 are invited to apply each Spring, and candidates are selected based on expressed interest and short answer questions. During the course of the week the campers are introduced to fire service history, personal protective equipment/gear, fire prevention, building construction, fire behavior, search & rescue, fire suppression methods, first aid & CPR, and more. Empowerment activities and physical fitness training also emphasized daily. There is no fee for this camp.

 

 

 

 

 

MTC Summer Fire Academy

 As part of the MTC Summer Academy program, current 6th through 8th grade students participate in hands-on activities that explore the various aspects of the Fire-Rescue program. This is a Monday – Friday 830-1230 program for one week. There is cost associated with this program (Includes instruction, supplies and transportation from middle schools) Transportation is provided from each middle school or students may be dropped off at MTC before 8:30 a.m. on the session days.

Farm Camp

 In cooperation with Progressive Agriculture, Virginia Cooperative Extension, 4H, RMH Foundation and countless other community partners, campers are given a single day camp experience where they are exposed to a variety of safety topics that have included: water safety, grain safety, outdoor safety, farm equipment safety, PTO safety and other potential farm related hazards. This camp is open to children from 3rd to 8th grades. There is no fee associated with this camp.
