To apply for all residential building permits, submit digital plans through the online portal or email directly to a building division Permit Specialist. If digital copies are unavailable, fill out the application below and visit the front desk of the building division to submit your plans and supporting documents.
Residential Building Permit Application
Virginia State Code waives the need for a building permit in some cases. Specific exemptions are listed within Virginia State Code Section 108.2. Additional questions regarding exemption can be directed to the County’s Building Official.
Non-licensed individuals are allowed to serve as a residential general contractor. An affidavit is required at time of permit application to declare responsibility in the absence of a licensed contractor.
