Registered voters of Virginia who do not hold any elected office or are not employees of an elected official.

You will need to arrive at the polling place by 5:15 am on election day and:

• Help prepare the polling place for voting and set up voting equipment
• Help check in voters
• Help close the polling place, certify number of votes cast, and complete paperwork
• Stay at precinct until all work is completed (usually between 8:30-9:00 pm).

Yes, a training seminar is held on a designated evening before each election.

You will be assigned to work at the precinct in which you vote, if possible. Occasionally, you could be asked to work at a nearby polling place.

You will receive a letter of appointment from Rockingham County’s Electoral Board for a specific term, usually 12 months. From the list of officers of election, the Board will then make assignments for each election. If not assigned, you will be considered an extra.
