The Rockingham County Department of Fire & Rescue is under the direction of Chief
Robert A. Symons, Assistant Chief Jeff Michael and Assistant Chief Jeremy Holloway.
The Department includes the following funcitonal divisions: training, prevention, public
education, a regional hazardous materials response team,an emergency dive & recovery
team, 9 volunteer Fire Companies, 6 volunteer Rescue Squads and one combination Fire
& Rescue Squad station. There are approximately 400 fire & emergency medical service
(EMS) volunteers, 59 career staff and 20 part-time staff. The career staff presently provide
staffing in 10 Fire and Rescue stations Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. In addition, the
County staffs an ambulance in Broadway and an Advance Life Support Fire Response
Vehicle in the McGaheysville/Elkton area 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
