Agricultural Advisory Committee
Eight members appointed by Board of Supervisors, (two- and four-year terms) two from each agricultural sector - beef, sheep, dairy and swine. Group of peer and technical advisors who seek practical, cost-effective solutions to agriculture-related pollution through collaborative effort of farms voluntarily working with RAAC.
Meet on as-needed basis.
Blue Ridge Community College Board
Two citizen members. Serve as board of visitors for Blue Ridge Community College.
Meet 7:30 p.m. second Wednesday - September through May. July meeting determined in May. Occasional special meetings.
Building Appeals Board
Five citizen members. Hear appeals and issue opinions on Inspection Department rulings.
Meet as necessary to hear appeals, usually in the evening.
Harrisonburg/Rockingham Community Criminal Justice Administrative Board
Six members (Five County and City officials and one representing JMU). Responsible for implementation of Comprehensive Community Corrections Act for Local Responsible Offenders and the Pretrial Services Act.
Meet as needed.
Harrisonburg/Rockingham Community Criminal Justice Board
Advisory Board to the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Criminal Justice Administrative Board.
Meet as needed.
Harrisonburg/Rockingham Community Services Board
Eight members (4 County/4 City). One member is member of Sheriff Dept. staff. Others are citizens. Serve as policy-making board for agency on mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse for the County and City.
Meet 7:00 p.m., second Tuesday each month.
Community Planning and Management Team
Thirteen members. Serve as the coordinating board for the programs administered through the Comprehensive Services Act for At-Risk Youth.
Meet 12:30 p.m., first Thursday each month.
Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee
Thirty members, including Planning Commission members. Responsible for guiding development of Comprehensive Plan update process.
Meet 6:00 p.m., third Wednesday each month.
Board of Equalization of Real Estate Assessments
Five citizens, one from each district, appointed every four years to hear appeals from land owners which result from the general reassessment of real property.
Meet as necessary to hear appeals after completion of General Reassessment.
Industrial Development Authority
Seven citizen members. Review and approve industrial development bonds (tax exempt) issued in Rockingham County for specific purposes that are outlined in State Code.
Meet as required. Must meet at least once a year, usually in December.
Juvenile Detention Home Commission
One member - staff. Policy making board overseeing regional juvenile detention facility.
Meet 11:00 a.m., first Friday of month on a quarterly basis.
Planning Commission
Five citizen members representing each district of the County. Review and make recommendations to the Board on land use related issues.
Meet 6:30 p.m., first Tuesday each month. Work sessions scheduled as needed.
Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission
Four members - one staff, two elected, one citizen. Regional advisory body which assists governmental subdivisions in planning the orderly and efficient development of the physical, social and economic elements of the district.
Meet 7:00 p.m., third Monday each month.
Private Industry Council
One member - citizen (must come from private sector). Advisory body for the implementation of the Job Training Partnership Act which is a federal program that assists people in re-training to find employment in our area.
Meet four times a year, Monday afternoons.
Recreation Commission
Ten members - two citizens from each district. Make recommendations for the establishment of policies used in the recreation programs and activities.
Meet 7:30 p.m., fourth Thursday each month.
School/County Liaison Committee
Composed of two Supervisors, two School Board members, County Administrator and School Division Superintendent to serve as liaison between the two boards. Part of Chairman's committee assignments.
Meet on a "called" basis.
Social Services Advisory Board for the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Social Services District
Established 1995. One member from each voting district (five from County and four from City). Make recommendations on the provision of social services in the County.
Meet every other month at 3:30 p.m., third Tuesday of the month.
Social Services District Administrative Board
Composed of County Administrator and City Manager; policy making, administrative oversight board of the Social Services District.
Meet 2:00 p.m., last Thursday each month.
Board of Zoning Appeals
Five members - recommended by Board of Supervisors and appointed by Circuit Court. Hear appeals on zoning cases.
Meet 6:00 p.m., first Tuesday each month.
ASAP (Alcohol Safety Action Program)
Five citizens - Advisory body establishes policy dealing with alcohol safety and prevention.
Meet mid-day four times a year.
HRRSA (Harrisonburg/Rockingham Regional Sewer Authority)
One - staff - Director of Public Works. Establishes policy on the operation and maintenance of the regional sewage treatment facility located in Mt. Crawford.
Meet 3:00 p.m., first Monday each month.
Soil & Water Conservation District Liaison
One staff to serve as liaison for Board of Supervisors at District Board Meeting.
Meet 9:30 p.m., first Thursday.
Shenandoah Valley Partnership
Two staff - County Administrator and Deputy County Administrator. Regional body that provides economic development assistance for member jurisdictions.
Meets quarterly.
Workforce Investment Board.
Two private-sector members appointed by Board of Supervisors. Advisory body for implementation of federal program that assists people is retraining to find employment in this area.
Meets third Thursday in February, May, September, & November (subject to change). Other meetings as called.
Northwestern Virginia Central Shenandoah Sub-Area Health Advisory Council
One citizen member - Council provides health planning services for cities and counties of northwestern Virginia.
Meet 7:30 p.m., third Wednesday, alternate months.
