Directions: Take Route 257 west, then right on Route 924 past Hone Quarry. Nine acre lake located inside the George Washington National Forest in western Rockingham County. The lake is stocked with trout, channel catfish, largemouth bass and bluegill.

A public shooting range where no appointment is needed, Flying Rabbit is open Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am until dusk from November to March and Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am until dusk the rest of the season.

One entrance, located in south western Rockingham County and past scenic views of pasture land, is the gateway to one of the most outstanding viewing spots in the entire forest: High Knob Fire Lookout Tower and Reddish Knob. The District has wonderful scenery, stocked trout waters, diverse wildlife habitats, a world-class trail system, spacious campgrounds, and many other attractions.

Grand Caverns is a powerful example of Nature's handiwork. Cathedral Hall, 280 feet long and over 70 feet high, is one of the largest rooms of any cavern in the East. In addition to the caverns, other activities to be enjoyed while at the park are hiking, picnicking, swimming (seasonal) and mini golf (seasonal). Be sure to call to make your group's reservation!

High Knob Fire Tower (George Washington National Forest)

One of the most outstanding viewing spots in the George Washington National Forest is the High Knob Fire Lookout Tower. The tower is located at an elevation of 4,107 feet, on the State line between Virginia’s Rockingham County and West Virginia’s Pendleton County. See website for directions.
Hone Quarry

Directions: Take Route 257 west from Dayton and turn right on Forest Development Road (FDR) 62 to the recreation area. Five and a half acre lake located in the George Washington National Forest in western Rockingham County. The lake is stocked with trout, channel catfish, bass, sunfish, and crappie.
